Race date: Sunday 9th June 2019
Race report by Nick Booker
The concept is simple, you start on the hour every hour and have to run and complete a 4.1 mile trail route in that time. You must be back within the hour in order to start the next loop. During the first 2 loops it rained heavily, but after that the weather was surprisingly warm even through the night. The lack of miles in my training started to take its toil after lap 20 with a little niggle in my ankle. By lap 22 I knew my time was limited but wanting to get 100 miles, I finally bowed out at lap 26 (106.6 miles) finishing overall in 7th position.
The fact is if you want to do well in long ultras you have to be prepared to put in the miles during training.
44 runners took part in the knock out event running a 4.1 mile loop every hour until one racer is left.
Andrew Smith won the event being the last male standing after 33 laps (135.3 miles)
Laura Swanton was the last female standing at 26 laps (106.6 miles)
Steel City Striders Nick Booker came in a fantastic 7th position completing 26 laps (106.6 miles). This was done over 25 hours and 46 minutes.
