The Kong MMM series comprises four events, two in the Lake District, one in Snowdonia and the final one in the Peak District. The events follow the now familiar “score” format requiring competitors to navigate to as many controls as they can within the four hour limit. I entered the final event, on Saddleworth Moor. I had a game of two halves – I was going pretty well for the first couple of hours, but then made what on reflection was a poor and rather inefficient route choice, leading to a lower points score than I would have liked. Never mind – it was still good fun in surprisingly calm conditions.
I finished 107 of 228 finishers, with four DNFs, and 17th of 39 in the V50 class (despite being V60 – the age for these events being set at 1.1.19). The winners were Anwen Darlington (Dundee Road Runners) and Neil Talbot (Ambleside AC).
