Race Date: Saturday 6th April 2019
Race Report by: Paul Shelton
The Chicken Run is a really good 9.4k fell race with 322m of ascent. It starts and finishes at Hayfield Primary School. it is really well organised and parking is easy. The organisers are really friendly and there are lots of helpful marshals all round the course. Tea and cakes at the end are wonderful. It comes highly recommended.
This year’s race was held on Saturday 6 April 2019 and I was pleased to meet Al Cook at registration. There were 144 runners and it was stunning weather, sunshine and blue skies all the way.
The run goes up over Middle Moor and along White Brow giving stunning views of Kinder and Kinder Reservoir, before turning back at the foot of William Clough.
First male was Steve Vernon, New Balance Manchester in 36.17 and first female was Kate Davies,Unattached in 46.53. Al Cook was 25th in 47.31 and I was 143= with Andy the sweeper who escorted me to the finish in 1.22.59!
Unfortunately I tripped and fell about 1k from the finish. How? I don’t know. I was on a flat grassy track and I wasn’t even last at that moment! The short version is that I broke the top of my right arm into 3 pieces and will not be running any time soon. I would like to put on record my thanks to Liz the organiser, Andy the sweeper and Dr Tom for sorting me out at the end of the run.
