Race date: Saturday, 4 May 2019
The Cake Race is a 16km, 518m ascent fell race on the moors south west of Marsden that’s rather more trail than fell, but good value nonetheless. The “Cake” bit comes in two stages: turn up with a cake and your entry fee is refunded; finish and eat the cakes, with a collection tin for local charities.
The winners were Oliver Heaton (Ribble Valley Harriers) in 1:07:43 and, in 5th place overall, Helen Berry (Holmfirth Harriers) in 1:12:16. Helen is in the V45 category, making her performance surely the best of the day. Two Striders were among the 205 finishers.
