The best fell race I have done in the Matlock area, which is different to any other I have done. 2 miles of the race is bang flat on the canal path, to and from Matlock rugby club at Cromford, then it is up, at first the old tramway that linked the Tissington trail to the Cromford canal. Very runnable, but also hard work, then it is off up into the woods to loop round until you pass black rock, which had plenty of climbers last night. You continue up until you get to the trig point and then it is all downhill from there. Nothing too technical, but fast, until you get to the tramway and back along the canal.
I certainly found this race interesting and challenging, run by Matlock RC, who are a club well worth supporting, as they organise some of the best value races in the country, find a cheaper and better run marathon and tri and you will do very well. This race was 5quid for 6 miles if you registered in advance, though you did not have to pay unless you turned up (a great idea, as it helps them with their admin and you do not risk losing out if you can not make it) or £6 on the night.
There were 209 finishers, Eleanor Lunt in 46.21 and Harry Holmes in 37.08 were the winners,
