Race Date: 29 September 2018
Wickersley Chase is the ninth event in the KMR Series, organised by Kimberworth, Maltby and Rotherham running clubs. It’s a 4.3 mile mixture of trail and tarmac, run over a two lap loop starting and finishing on Wood Lane in Wickersley. Registration is a fiver on the day in Wickersley WMC and the 11am start ensures that the post race spread (which so often characterises these races!) quickly disappears. Despite having lived in the area for nearly twenty years and being well into my fifth year as a runner, this was the first time I’d been able to compete. I must have run the hill up from the fishing ponds to Bramley Cemetery 20 times over the years, but pushing it on a warm, breezy day made it quite a tough undertaking.
53 runners took part. The winner, in a time of 26:14 was Kevin Doyle of RHAC. Dianne Elliot of RHAC was first lady in 30:52. Five Striders took part, with Daniel Cubit leading the way as first male senior and Sarah Allcard as first FV45.
