Race Date: Saturday 3rd November 2018
Race report by Nick Booker
The White Rose Ultra is a 100 mile (actually 105 miles) around the moors of Huddersfield, with 12,462 feet of elevation. Was always going to be hard work. Setting off at 8am lap 1, 6 hours far too quick but felt good into lap 2 and lap 3. Do not seem to remember much about these apart from the dark and the horizontal rain and never-ending wind which seemed to be for hours.
At mile 86, I lost all my skin on my right little toe but was nothing compared to mile 98, losing all the skin on my left little toe. The pain was unbearable not being able to run. I then had to walk the last 7 miles but to my surprise I finished 4th. Not the only Strider: John Rawlinson did the 60 mile finishing a very credible 17th in 16 hours 15 minutes. As anyone will tell you this race is brutal no matter what distance. Now is a 150 miler next year! Something to look forward to!
The 100-miler was won by Robert Dale in 22.59.57, first lady back was Kim Kennedy in 27.09.00. The 60-miler was won by Jamie Hauxwell in 9.29.00, first lady back was Sarah Evershed in 14.17.00.
