The inaugural Westways Whizz, organised by the Friends of Westways PTA, had passed us by until a late shout out from Andrew Woffindin spurred us into action. We joined several hundred adults and kids for an evening run around the Bolehills Park in Crookes where a party atmosphere prevailed. The fun run was approximately 1.5km for mini athletes (with quite a few big athletes joining in) The Big athletes ran 5k which involved one small lap and three big laps of the undulating park. Conditions were warm! Finishers were greeted by enthusiastic crowds, a much-needed bottle of water and a cake. The race was won by our very own Ben Jones, fresh from his efforts at the Liverpool Marathon, in 17.19. Helen Elmore was the first lady with a time of 20.24. Thanks to the organisers and marshals for a thoroughly enjoyable event.
