Race Date: Sunday 15th July 2018
15th July 2018, took me back home for the festival of running weekend. The event full of variety. A 5k, half marathon, full marathon and fun run. These events either started at the newly relegated Stoke City ground or the mighty Port Vale (Vale Park).
After last week’s scare in the heat I needed to put it behind me and focus on running the half, yes a little hilly and yes a little off-road.
Taking to the start line, I knew the win was there for the taking, I just needed to run a relaxed and well paced run.
First mile ticked by 5.48. It was fine as I knew I felt comfortable and knew the job I had to get done. Next mile I was sent a little wrong, losing about 20 seconds but still in the lead so back to it and then the hills came thick and fast.
The heat started to get to me so every water station it was over the head and crack on.
As I approached Vale Park I thought better put a show on so another 5.49 and over the line in 1.22.57.
Just enough for the win however way of my PB off 1.15.22.
229 runners completed the course. Well done to Tom for his first placed finish. The women’s race was won by Lindsay Dixon of Newcastle (Staffs) in 1.37.07.
