Race Date: Tuesday 22nd May
The Scholes Coppice multi-terrain race is organised by Rotherham Harriers as part of the KMR series of events, hosted by the three participating running clubs in the Rotherham area. 2018 was the first running of the race, and the May date was re-arranged from earlier in the year when adverse weather put paid to the event.
The 3.5 mile route sees competitors move from road to trail and into Scholes Coppice where a brutal hill up through the woods brings the race onto Keppels field, around the famous Column and back down into the woods to complete the circuit again. If the hill doesnt get you the first time around then the second effort is truely lung-bursting.
74 competitors raced the inaugural event, which was won by Damien Worsdall of Rotherham Harriers in a time of 22:49. First lady was Elly Woodhead of Kimberworth Striders in 26:23, and not far behind, two Striders completed the course, with lungs almost intact. Their results are shown below, and full results can be found here.
