Race Date: 14-15 July 2018
The Race to the Stones event is a 50 km (1 day) or 100 km (2 day or non-stop) trail race following the Ridgeway, described as Britain’s oldest road, which runs from the Chilterns to the North Wessex Downs, experiencing some of the UK’s most breath-taking scenery along the way and finishing next to the 5,000-year-old stone circle at Avebury. The route passes up and along the high ground South West from Lewknor in Oxfordshire to the Thames crossing at Goring. From this point the route rises up onto the North Wessex Downs passing golden fields before the iconic finish between the towering stones of Avebury.
Of the 946 participants starting the non-stop 100 km route, 895 completed the course, and Strider James Rose finished a very respectable 13th in a time of 10:47:14. The race was won by Geoffrey Cheshire in a time of 8:36:10 and first lady was Alyssa Clark in 9:35:32.
Completing the 50 km version, fellow Strider Hal Roberts recorded a time of 5:33:14 in finishing 9th out of a total of 404 participants completing the Saturday version of the race from Lewknor to Wantage.
