Race Date: Sunday 18th November 2018
The weather on the west of the Pennines was, with the exception of an occasionally stiff breeze, nigh on perfect for round three of this year’s Peak Raid series of mini mountain marathons.
Five Striders were among the 137 finishers, most of whom ran solo, with some running as pairs. The event centre was in Old Glossop, with the fifteen controls scattered across the western slopes and summit of Bleaklow.
As with the other events in this series, we had three hours in which to gather as many points as possible. For those of you unfamiliar with these events, have a look at the attached copy of the event map. Link;(Peak Raid 18.11.18) The clear visibility made for relatively straightforward navigation, although as with all of these events post race analysis identified scope for improvement (at least as far as I was concerned!).
The winners were Philip Nokes of LUOC (which I think is Leeds University Orienteering Club) with 480 points and Sue Richmond of Pennine Fell Runners with 385 points.
