Race Date: Monday 18th June 2018
Five Striders including my Grandson Jacob were lucky enough to attend the Valley Hill Runners Midsummer Dash on 18th June 2018. It was a fun trail race in which we could also explore the industrial heritage of South Yorkshire. We began at the Packhorse Pub and the route was just under 5 miles through Thorncliffe Wood and Newbiggin Wood. A mixture of technical paths and descents, fast, flat running and five hills all combine to provide a good challenge of running ability and technique. This evening, with recent fine weather the conditions were perfect underfoot.
The organisation and support was fantastic- much better start than previous years avoiding some congestion on the first hill. The first person to cross the finish line was Paul Johnson from Barnsley Harriers with a time of 29.57, and first lady was Lisa Malloy of Kingstone Runners with a time of 37.37.
Special mention to my Grandson Jacob who on his second trail experience was the first Junior to cross the finish line with a time of 41.38.
Well done to everybody.
