Race Date: 18th November 2018
Heanor Running Club have been organising the Matthew Walker 10k for 32 years. This year it was on 18th November. If you fancy an early Christmas Pud and can’t wait for the Percy Pud I would highly recommend this race. There were approximately 1000 runners in this friendly and very well organised event.
The route starts with a circuit of the industrial estate passing the Christmas Pud factory then goes around Shipley Country Park on well made paths and some quiet roads. The profile is undulating, just enough to make it interesting but not too challenging. There is mulled wine and mince pies at the end although these were a bit hard to get down at the end of the race!
My only criticism is the different age groups for men and women. Men are cut off at 70 and women at 65. Also earlier age groups were different. I think it’s time we equalised this.
Results were 1st Male Chris Rainsford (Heanor RC) in 31:52. 1st Female Juliet Potter (Charnwood AC) in 36:59.
Only 2 Striders – Ian Blackburn 53:01 and Stephanie Street 53:38.
