Race Date: 27th May 2018
Report by Dawn Hindle-May
When I set off to get the shuttle bus to the start at 6.30am under a drizzly, cloudy sky, I can only say I was thankful that we might be escaping the forecast heat and the conditions seemed about perfect. Like the marathon itself, starting two hours later, the course is described as fast and flat. A big descent to start, no familiar Sheffield ups to follow, and a flat route out to the coast. I have to say, I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn’t injured by calf a week before and not sure running on it was advisable. But I still managed a PB of 2:16:22 (chip time), quite a significant improvement on the Leeds Half last year of 2:29:20. And although during the last 3km I swore I wouldn’t run this distance again, not sure I am done with it yet as feel like I really could improve on this.
The race winner was Severino Felipe Gomezin 1:10:37 and first female finishing in 30th place was Breege Connolly in 1:16:09, both running in the over 40 category.
