There’s a 30 and 40 mile version of this race (the 40 mile route takes an extra loop through the forest). For those that have never done one, this is a lovely introduction to ultra running – the route is pretty flat and predominantly run on easy going trails through Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park. An unscheduled detour saw the leading group add an extra half mile or so to their day but on the whole the route is extremely well marked.
The 30 mile race was won by Alan Ford, of Barnsley Harriers in a time of 3:48:09. First woman was Jamie Buckley, of Totley AC in a time of 4:41:39.
The 40 mile race was won by Rob Payne, of Caistor RC with a stunning Course Record of 4:57:39. First woman was Rachael Shelbourn, of Smalley Road Runners in a time of 6:25:11.
3 Striders in attendance. Sadly, James Rose retired hurt from the 30 mile race.
