Race Date : Wednesday 18th July 2018
Originally scheduled for 11th July 2018, this year’s race was pushed back a week to avoid a clash with football almost coming home.
The route consists of 3 laps of Doncaster town centre and if you are looking for a flat fast 5k (that isn’t parkrun) with the added incentive of occasional “encouragement” from inebriated locals enjoying an early evening drink then you can’t go far wrong with the Doncaster 5k. The numbers in this year’s race seemed to be lower than previous years which may have been a result of the late change to the date. Nevertheless, a slight break in the recent heatwave made for ideal conditions with many competitors coming away with PBs.
There are 2 races, a Vets race at 7:30 followed by an Open race at 8:00. The Vets race was won by Gareth Lowe from Clowne Road Runners in a time of 15:31. The 1st lady home was Fiona Davies from Rotherham Harriers in a time of 17:59. Special mention to Strider Lucy Broom who made the podium with a 3rd place finish. The Open race was won by Emile Cairess from Leeds City AC in a time of 14:36. 1st lady home was Bronwen Owen from Scarborough AC in a time of 16:22.
