Derwent Dambuster (10m) Report

Race Date: Saturday 12th May

Race Report by David Forrest

The Derwent Dambuster is a scenic, undulating 10 miler along the trails and tarmac of the Derwent Valley.

The race is organised by Challenge Cancer Through Adventure. Before the start, we heard from Jacqui, an inspirational woman living with an incurable form of bone cancer. Jacqui gave a very moving speech about the support she’d received from the charity, and thanked us for signing up and getting behind the cause.

The weather was perfect – sunny, but not too hot – and the race was efficiently organised by lots of friendly volunteers, but the highlight was undoubtedly the cake tent. As we finished, we were greeted by a fine array of baked delights – this Strider opted for some zesty Lemon Drizzle, and a slice of wholesome Banana Cake. I’ll be back with my Tupperware next year!

173 runners completed the race, with ten Striders putting in strong performances. The winner was Patrick Wright in a time of 01:00:46, and first Lady was our very own Rio Cooper in a time of 01:09:16. Special mention, too, to Clive Downing, who was running on his birthday – happy birthday, Clive! Club results can be found below and full results can be found here.
