Race Date: Sunday 6th May 2018
Carsington 7+ is a 7.76 mile (12.5km) race around the beautiful Carsington Reservoir. Runners complete a full clockwise circuit of the reservoir, taking in spectacular views across the water and the beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Mainly on cycle track, the course is flat in places but includes some moderate to steep inclines.
Sole Striders representative Regan Hanson brings us his report:
Sunday started with a beautiful sunny drive through the Peak District to Carsington Water. We got there for 8:45 and found easy parking and number pick up was quick and easy.
9:30 race starts, it’s a one lap race round the lake. I started slowly, I was using this run as a recovery from London and sort of getting ready for the Liverpool Half in a couple of weeks.
It was scorching again, just like London. It’s hard trail underfoot, and quite undulating. At Mile 3 there’s a monster hill and then it’s up and down with some steep hills for about 3 miles; it reminded me of a spirals session.
The last mile was flat, and a welcome relief. I finished fairly strong with a good negative split. It’s a beautiful place to run, with stunning views of the lake and surrounding Peak District.
407 runners completed the race which was won by Chris Millett (Team Derby Runner) in 45:39. The first lady was Rachel Uff (unattached) in 58:48.
