Race date: Saturday 14th April 2018
The 24th St Paul’s Scout Group organised this 40th anniversary run/walk over a long route (40 miles, 6,800 feet or about 2,072 m of ascent) and a short route (22 miles, 4,000 feet or about 1,220 m of ascent). The organisers comment “… As some of the terrain is harsh, the organizing committee recommend that navigation skills are required, especially if the weather is inclement …”. Well, that lot certainly sets the scene!
175 people took part in the whole event but just concentrating of the 40 mile run, there were an impressive 45 finishers. Amazing effort all round. The winner was Rory Harris of Stockport (Clubs aren’t generally credited) in a stunning 5 hours 54 minutes – that’s an average of around 6.6 mph. The first woman home was Karen Nash of Preston in 7:58.
