Race Date: Sunday 04 February 2018
Race report by Tom Halloway
The Alsager 5 mile race, established in 1985, is held on the first Sunday in February in the Cheshire town of Alsager, between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent. The course is flat and fast and is ideal for seasoned competitors looking to see how their winter training has gone or beginners taking up running for the first time.
The race not only attracts local runners but also runners from outside the area, hence the presence of a couple of Striders in the field.
Winner of the 2018 race was Jack Martin of Stockport Harriers in a time of 24:19 and first lady was Lauren Howarth of Leigh Harriers in a time of 26:55. Returning to his old stomping ground and armed with a TUE for tooth infection antibiotics, Tom Halloway got his racing season off to a great start by posting a respectable 28:25 in 48th place. The race also signalled a welcome return for Carol Beattie, who finished in a time of 41:52. Well done both!
