Race Date: Saturday 4th March 2017
Races where us ‘oldies’ can’t be whooped by the young whipper snappers!! Sadly I’ve always had something on when this race is on so I’ve not had a chance to be beaten thoroughly by people of my own age.
Steel City Striders won a load of stuff at this event last year. This year there was also some success. The first race pitted the women and the 70+ men together in a 5km race. There were 103 entrants and the race was won by Helen Berry of Holmfirth Harriers in 20.40. The first MV70+ male was Peter Ellerton of Bingley Harriers in 26.17. Special mention to Sheena Woodhead who was first in her FV 65 category. Well done Sheena. The Striders FV 35-44 team (3 to score) finished 11th.

Race 2 was a 10k race for the MV 50-69 category. There were 82 runners and the race was won by Simon Wright of Doncaster AC in 33.52. The Striders MV 50-59 (3 to score) team finished 11th.

In the final 10k, the MV 35 – 49 race had 70 runners and was won by Dave Watson of Holmfirth Harriers in 32.50. The Striders MV 35-39 team (3 to score) finished 2nd, the MV 40 – 49 team (3 to score) finished 10th and the MV 40 – 49 team (5 to score) finished 4th.
