Race Date: 15th January 2017
The resolution run is your chance to put all of those New Years resolution’s into action. There are two routes to pick from. The 12km route will take you over generally good paths but will have the occasional hill to contend with. The 6km route is for running race novices and will be on good paths. Both races are professionally timed using sport ident timing systems. All finishers can choose between a piece of fruit or cake to help you start the year as you mean to go on!
Further information is available on the eightpointtwo website.
One Strider took part in the 12km race held at Rother Valley. Well done Magda! Here is Magda’s race report:
Very few club shirts in evidence, at this informal race. There were 2 run options, a family friendly 6k or a more challenging 12k. I opted for the 12k. Almost immediately after setting off we were sliding down a muddy embankment. The race organisers suggestion to wear trail shoes suddenly made sense to the 100 odd people running. At least one runner lost a shoe in a boggy swamp and had to return for it.
It was a mixture of trail, cross country and compacted rubble and gravel paths all clearly way marked by flags, and tape. Few marshalls except at junctions and crossings but it would have been hard to get lost.
Cross country season had prepared me for the terrain, but I overheard one runner wailing “Where’s the concrete”! The last 2 miles were probably familiar to park runners and took you around the lake back to the cafe area.
If you like a nice smooth tarmac road race with plenty of crowd support then give this race a miss. But if old school cross country is your thing then this low key, local event is good value and muddy fun.
No medals or t-shirts just a table of fruit or cookies at the end.”
The race was won by Mike Anthony in 46:22 and the first female was Emma Cowley in 55:54. Results available online.
