Race Date: 19th July 2017
2017 is the second year of the Durham City run. Its a night race, organised by Steve Cram’s Events of the North, with both a 10k and 5k option. Both races start simultaneously with the 10k runners getting 2 laps. Its an undulating course, with the final 400m up a cobbled hill finishing on the Palace Green in front of Durham Cathedral. There was great support all round the course and a fantastic atmosphere round the City.
1578 runners took the 10k option (including 2 Striders) with 768 additional 5k runners for company on the first lap. There really is something for everyone in this race with the Historic Castle & Cathedral providing the backdrop to the random first to second lap transition that involved running through the ground level of a multi storey car park!
The winner of the 10k race was Stephen Jackson (Elvet Striders) in 34.06 with the first lady, Tracy Millmore (Birtley AC) in 37.40.
