Race Date: Friday 19th May
The first of the Hayfield “Three Days in May” fell races. All three races had record numbers with the May Queen attracting 136 runners including our own Alasdair Menmuir, who also took part in the following day’s Mount Famine Fell Race. The May Queen is an evening “three mile trot up Lantern Pike from the scout hut” and as it is relatively short is open to Junior runners.
As this was the 30th running of this race, every entrant got a special commemorative coaster. Simon Bailey of Mercia FR was first back in 19.36 and Caitlin Rice of Ribble Valley Harriers was first woman in 23.16, just a second outside the record.
