Race date: Saturday September 16th 2017
The Cross Keys relay is a relay over two road legs of 3 miles and two fell legs of 2.5 miles. This format was originally designed to bring road and fell runners together in an event where they could appreciate each others’ skills and meet for a pint afterwards. Road legs are two laps of a hilly circuit. The fell leg is a single lap of an ‘undulating’ course over Saddleworth Moor – undulating being somewhat an understatement, but a beautiful, though challenging route.
24 teams competed in this year’s event.
The men’s relay race was won by Holmfirth Vets in 1:24:30, with Saddleworth Ladies winning the women’s relay in 1:45:16.
The Striders were able to enter two mixed teams: congratulations to the Steel City Striders A Team who won the mixed category, and the B team who came in third in the mixed category. Six striders ran with Goldstar enlisting the help of his cousin Martin to make up the numbers.
Special mention to Simone Young-Alls who heroically ran two legs of a very hilly route!
