Race report by Vicky Hawkins
“Two lone Striders headed out to Winster Hill Race near Matlock, not quite knowing what to expect as neither of us had done a “Hill” race before. The race is organised by Matlock AC and is 6.7km long with 226m climb.
We had thought it to be more of a fell race but it turned out to be mainly road / trail with a few muddy fields and banks to slide down. We both wore fell shoes, which according to a local, would very much be needed (clearly he had never run on Blackamoor!).
Despite there being more tarmac than expected, we both really enjoyed this race and would recommend anyone to try it. The whole village turned out to watch and the village pub put on a BBQ at the finish line. This is a well organised race and although the race was mainly uphill the steep, fast and slightly mad downhill finish means we will both be back next year, with hopefully a few more Striders joining us.”
