Race Date: Sunday 21st August 2016
‘A fully indicated challenging 30km circular run or walk starting and finishing from the Belper Rugby Club’s home, ‘Strutts Fields’, through the Derbyshire countryside incorporating Roman Roads, Midshires Way long distance walk, through ancient woodlands and agricultural landscape’.
Billed by Dave Perkins as his ‘favourite race’, it was a must for me this year after missing it for the 12.12 last year. The race was probably 75% trail and 25% road, with a good mixture of terrains, including some interesting fields containing cows that can only be described as excitable and hyper – John Rawlinson would have been a bit worried!
A great long distance race, ideal for some stamina training. Whilst I wouldn’t bill it as my favourite race, it was very enjoyable and would come highly recommended. At £15 for 18 miles and a free t- shirt, it also passes the Moss/Howson financial test.
The race had 184 competitors and was won by David Smithers of York Knavesmire Harriers in 2.07.07. The first woman home was Deborah Thomas of Trentham RC in 2.28.33. Well done to the 5 striders in attendance.
