Race Date: Sunday 5th June 2016
The Ramathon – or the Derby Half Marathon, which better describes what it is, follows a slightly undulating course and includes a few miles of trail (mostly fine gravel) as well as the usual tarmac.
This year’s edition was very much a race of 2 distinctive parts, not only due to the trails in the second half, but also the weather – which went from cool overcast conditions straight into warm and sunny, seemingly very quickly. This made for some racing in hot conditions, so any PBs achieved today were well deserved on what I thought was a surprisingly challenging course.
The winner was Stuart Spencer of Notts AC, in a time of 1:09:02. The winning lady was Gemma Bridge of Oxford City AC, in a time of 1:19:12.
2949 runners finished the race, of which 13 were Striders. Well done to all who took part, regardless of whether you are happy with your time or not! Special mention goes to Graham Hague, who has continued his club record streak by getting yet another gun time PB – of 1:40:21.
