Race Date: Sunday 7th February 2016
This is the kind of ‘race’ that the head torch runs and the Tigger Tor were leading up to and so it turned out to be for Joe Buckman. He just couldn’t resist the draw back to Longshaw for a few more hours of running through the mud and the bogs. To be honest, had I not been away for the weekend, I would probably have joined him.
Anyway, there were 223 runners or pairs of runners who took part in this event. Four hours to visit as many control points as possible, each control point worth a different score depending on difficult to find/distance to cover to get to it. Points are lost for those arriving back late, ie after more than four hours out there – and strangly enough there were some!
The winner was Martyn James of Porter Valley Plodders with 461 points, including a 9 point penalty for being 9 mins late. The first woman home was Jasmine Paris with 350, including a 2 point penalty. Well done to the 3 Striders who took part in the event and scored admirably. Special mention to Joe on his debut mini mountain marathon event.
