Peak Trail Spring Series Round 3 result – Calver

Race Date: Sunday 8th May 2016

A beautiful morning awaited us out in the Peaks for round 3 of the Peak Trail Spring Series. A similar sunny day had greeted me at the Monyash event for round one. The temperature however was signficantly different to the end of February.

An early start of 8.30am was the order of the day (this was a dibbed race, starting any time between 8.30 and 9.30). I think I was the 4th person out on the course – but was soon being passed – as I made my way along the river at Curbar. I hadn’t really looked at the course but soon realised I was going to go up the same hill at I went up at the Grindleford Gallop before descending into Eyam. As i had another 9 miles to do, a brisk walk was called for!.

The course was really well marked and required no navigational skills at all – a bonus for some inc myself. There was a total of 1585 feet of elevation in the race but a very nice last 2km of downhill to finish with.

150 runners completed the course inc 2 Striders, James Fletcher and myself. Well done to us both! The race was won by Billy Cartwright in 1.10.30. The first woman home was Carla Gibbons in 1.28.18.

Two races had to be completed out of the 3 to be given a position in the league table. James Fletcher finished 8th in the 17 – 39 category with a score of 245.32. I was pleased to get 6th place in the 40-49 category with a total score of 257.59.

Striders Results:

Pos Name Cat Time
24 James Fletcher 17 – 39 1.28.33
36 Nick Burns 40 – 49 1.32.32
