The Kielder Ultra Trail is set in the vast expanse of Kielder Water & Forest Park, Northumberland. The Park spans 600 square kilometres & is home to the largest forest in England & the largest man-made lake in northern Europe. The area features mile upon mile of purpose-built trails including forest walks, woodland singletrack and heather clad moorland. Add to this a few little unique features & this will be an ultra trail run like no other…..the perfect way to explore this amazing area.
There are actually three separate races with distances of 100k, 80k and 50k.
Its the 50k (31 miles) race that we are concerned about as for the 2nd year in a row Striders took on the challenge.
Last year, Nicole Brown and Nesta Humphries tackled the 50k and this year it was the turn of Tanith James.
Again, nothing but admiration for Tanith in taking on this epic race.
Joint winners of the race were Simon Green of Team Ashmei, Mark Wilson of South Shields and Ryan Hogben of UKA in 4:39:10. Which was only 13 minutes ahead of the first lady home, Katey Foster in 4:52:50.
Tanith finished a highly respectable 53rd from 92 starters in 6:34:44. Her performance gave her a 9th placed finish in the ladies race and 4th FV40 home. A brilliant achievement.
