Race Date: 17th September
The High Peak 40 Mile Challenge (HP40) was initiated in 1986 by a Buxton company called Otter Controls Ltd. as a one-off event to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary. It proved so popular that it has carried on ever since, these days being organised as a partnership between Buxton and District Lions Club and Buxton Community School.
The route takes in the Goyt Valley, Eccles Pike, Rushup Edge, Castleton, Tideswell, the Monsal Trail and then some largely unpopulated undulating terrain across the countryside back to Buxton.
First man to complete the challenge this year was Robin Sanderson of Herne Hill Harriers in 06:04:46 whilst Helen Morley of Belper Harriers was the fastest lady in 07:28:34 (more than half an hour ahead of the next lady).
Lone strider Simon Bayliss was 16th overall of 100 finishers. Well done Simon.
