Race Date: Sunday 6th March 2016
The Haweswater Half follows an out and back course from Bampton Village and passes along the shores of Haweswater in a remote and dramatic mountain valley. The hilly course (over 1000ft elevation) offers an exhilarating run in unique surroundings.
The conditions for this race were perfect. Clear blue skies, slightly chilly, the lake was like glass and the mountains had an icing sugar coat of snow. This has to be one of the most stunning routes a road half marathon can take. What was even better was a commemorative mug at the end that was full of hot, sweet tea – bliss!
408 runners took part including a bus load of Blackburn Road Runners who had decided to use this race as one of their races in their championship – a very wise choice! The race was won by James Buis of Border Harriers in 1.13.59. First woman home was Heidi Dent of Howgill Harriers in 1.22.56
