Race Date: Sunday 12th June 2016
229 entrants to this year’s Edale fell race including 16 Striders. Well done to all. The climb at the beginning was tough but personally I found it easier than Calver Edge basically because there was no option but to brisk walk it. I used Chairman Buck as my pace man and route guidance system and ended up taking all the allowed short cuts including sliding down a steep grassy decline on my backside!!
Fortunately the weather held out until the end for most of us, but soon after the heavens opened which had us all scampering for the beer tent!
Sadly this year’s event was not Strider incident free as Trevor Burton turned his ankle quite badly and it swelled up like a huge egg. Edale MRT came up with a suggested treatment of applying an ice cream to said swelling in order to reduce it – or secondly, go and stand in the stream for a while. I think getting a few emergency ice packs in a first aid kit would be a better suggestion.
The race was won by Josh Williams of DPFR in 36.37. The first woman home was Steph Curtis of Pennine fell runners in 43.32. Once again well done to all the participating Striders on what was a beautifully scenic fell race.
