The 2015 Rowbotham’s Round Rotherham: An International Trail Event of 80 km, 50 miles is an undulating route with, overall, 800 m of climb through the South Yorkshire Forest
(The area designated as The South Yorkshire Forest is mainly rural land rather than a vast area of woodland)
Huge kudos to all the entrants and to the 197 finishers. Special mention to Striders Mark Gray and James Fletcher for their sterling efforts. Well done both. Also special thoughts to Brian Harney of Rotherham Harriers who came in in 197th position in a time of 16.44.45! Mark’s report on his race is as follows:
Tough day at the Round Rotherham 50. I went out hard to try and beat 7 hours and get a top 3 place. In the end it wasn’t to be. Finished in 5th place in 7hrs 23 mins. I got up to 2nd place at half way and knocked out at 3.23 marathon, which was my target speed….then the wheels fell off after 33-34 miles and it was a real suffer-fest for the last 17 miles. Didn’t help myself by running 51 miles instead of 50 due to missing the first turning on the course…. Happy to hang on for 5th and a respectable time in the end.
The race was won by Kevin Hoult of Stadium Runners in 6.48.44. First women home were Susan Keens and Lizzie Hutson, both in 7.52.30.
