The Kielder Ultra Trail is set in the vast expanse of Kielder Water & Forest Park, Northumberland. The Park spans 600 square kilometres & is home to the largest forest in England & the largest man-made lake in northern Europe. The area features mile upon mile of purpose-built trails including forest walks, woodland singletrack and heather clad moorland. Add to this a few little unique features & this will be an ultra trail run like no other…..the perfect way to explore this amazing area.
Quite a write up for quite a race. There are actually three separate races with distances of 100k, 80k and 50k.
Its the 50k (31 miles) race that we are concerned about as two Striders completed the epic distance.
The winners of the 50k race were Ben Hamilton of Selby Striders in 3:54:21 and the first lady home was Tracy Dean of Team Raidlight in 4:55:49 in a total field of 66 runners.
As an aside, 24 people completed the 100k and 14 people the 80k races.
We have nothing but admiration for Striders pair Nicole Brown and Nesta Humphries for taking on this challenge and completing it.
Amazing stuff, eight and a half hours on your feet? Just wow!
