Race Date: Sunday 15th November 2015
Windy, very windy! However, the advantage was that we were running in loops so every head wind equalled a tail wind too. We were all ushered to the start line which involved a good 3/4 mile walk back along the race track in the wind (and the rain). Noone told us how many laps to do but Adrian did it last year so we all trusted his knowledgeable 4 and a half times round comment – when I had finished with a 13 minute half marathon PB, I thought I better go round once more!!
To be honest, I quite enjoyed this half. After 2 laps, I got into the groove and I knew what expect. The wind assisted downhills were good and sheltered. The pull up to the hairpin and then along the home straight was a slog. There was always people to chase down as the slower runners were lapped – I think I was only lapped by the winner! We all agreed that it was hard but it had been enjoyable and I’m glad I took Adrain’s advice to give it a go. Not sure if I’d do it again but definitely worth giving it a go once.
The race was won by James Douglas of Charnwood AC in 1.21.33. The first woman home was Nicola Holmes, unattached, in 1.35.06. Definitely worth mentioning is that Anthony O’Keefe and Peter MacQueen achieved first place and a prize in the guided/assisted category. Well done fellas!
