Race Date: Intro Ultra Saturday 15th August 2015
Andy Buck took part in the strangely named ‘Intro Ultra’, a 30 mile dash across the Peak District without a map being supplied. Andy finished in a very credible 20th place but was penalised 1 hour for missing a dib out. In Andy’s own words,
Incognito (apart from my Striders vest that is) I turned up last Saturday for my first ever ultra – the 30 mile, 1388 m ascent Dig Deep Intro Ultra – on the back of very little running having been on a cycling holiday. And hey presto, I cross the line in 20th place, second V50 in 5.35. And then: I check my results, and discover that very, very stupidly I omitted to dib one of the electronic controls, have a one hour penalty imposed, and slip to 53 of 129 finishers and 4th M50. How annoying is that?
The Intro Ultra was won by Lee Kemp in 4.26.54. First woman home was Kate Hastings in 4.59.10
Race Date: 12.12 Sunday 16th August 2015
I found this a really enjoyable experience. Flogging it up Porter Clough, across a cow infested field, running along the rocky hell that is Houndkirk Road!! Seriously though, it was a great race and I do highly recommend it to anyone who fancies a well organised/marshalled off road event. Myself, Martyn and Ashleigh ran it together as we were unsure what to expect – safety in numbers, here cow, attack Martyn! Unfortunately Ashleigh was running with a bit of an injury so we took it at a nice steady pace (maybe an excuse but true). I think we all agreed we’d come back and do it again next year (perhaps).
The 12.12 was won by Julian Lings in 1.21.37. First woman home was Sally Fawcett in 1.41.06. There were 153 entrants. From what I can see there were no Striders entered for the Ultra 60 or the 10k.
