The final race of the South Yorkshire Cross Country League also doubles up as the South Yorkshire Championship. Not that Striders were likely to trouble the engravers this year. With the fixture clashing with the Bolsover 10k, the number of Striders racing in the mud was fewer than usual. It was windy but at least he rain held off until after the racing was finished.

The women’s race was won by Bronwen Owen (Guest) in 23:43 – a minute and a half clear of second place. There were 104 runners. Carol Beattie was our only representative in the women’s race.

Stephen Bayton (Sheffield Hallam University) won the men’s race in 32:47. There were 164 finishers, including four Striders.

So, after a promising start after the first fixture, our team scores fell away sharply as the league continued and Striders finished a long way adrift at the bottom of Div 1 and will be duly relegated to Div 2 for next season.
